Ideas for letters when you don’t feel “good” at writing

We sometimes hear the words uttered “I’m not very good at writing”. We’d make the argument that everyone has something to give to a letter and it doesn’t always have to be your words.

Be inspired by other people’s words

A picture of lots of postcards with poems written on the back of them. They are colourful - pink, blue and yellow. In the centre there is one featuring the poem Rooks Over Avebury by Jo Bell. The poem postcard was written on 31st January 2018.

Poems for example are excellent to share. They say so much in so few words and we each take our own interpretation. They are perfect gifts to send to loved ones or for our Donate A Letter campaign.

Choose your favourite poem and share. Here is one of our favourites:

TODAY - by Mary Oliver

Today is a day of

dark clouds and slow rain.

The little blades of corn

are so happy.

Let colour lead the way

Some of us are incredibly talented artists - you may or may not be one of them! But either way, a little artistic expression can also be a beautiful gift for someone living with cancer. What’s the saying? A picture paints a thousand words… let the art do the talking, whether that’s something you’ve created or indeed a card that you spot when you’re on your travels.

Pop a little gift in

Envelope sized gifts can also bring a smile - be that a cross-stitched card or a pair of dangly earrings to give a dog a new look!
